Bassoon

Vincent Ellin played Principal Bassoon in the Winnipeg Symphony and the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra for over 32 years, before concentrating his efforts on Solo and Chamber Music. His teachers include Sherman Walt(the Boston Symphony), Sol Schoenbach (the Philadelphia Orchestra), and Stephen Maxym (the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra). He graduated with the Chadwick Medal andhighest Honors from the New England Conservatory and also with a Diploma from Milan Turkovic’s Master classes in Vienna Austria.He was a participant at the Marlboro Music Festival where he performed in the Festival Orchestra under Pablo Casals, as well as performances lead by Marcel Moyse.

He has appeared frequently as a Soloist with the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, the CBC Winnipeg Orchestra, the Winnipeg Symphony and the Musick Barock Orchestras. As well, he has been a guest Principal in the National Arts Centre Orchestra and as Principal Bassoon of the Orchestra de Sinfonica de Mineria in Mexico City. He has also been invited as a guest of the Netherlands Double Reed Society in the complete massive Skalkottas Cycle Concert in Rotterdamwhere he performed with other solo artists from Amsterdam and the Orchestre de Paris.Most recently he has appeared in Musica Speciale as a soloist, and has just completed a recording of a solo work by composer Diana McIntosh for the Canadian Music Centre. He has given Master classes in Mexico City, Banff, Winnipeg and the United States, as well as at the University of Manitoba. He continues to teach in his private studio as well as promoting the bassoon as a solo instrument.
