Cathy Foster graduated from University of Manitoba with a BN and has also obtained an MSc in Community Health Administration (Wellness Promotion focus) and a Master of Science of Nursing from University of Phoenix. She has experience working as a staff nurse in long term and palliative care. She also worked for many years as a nursing instructor at Brandon General Hospital, Assiniboine Community College, University of Manitoba and currently at Brandon University.

Cathy has a variety of research interests which are primarily around health promotion, chronic illness and palliative care. Research, to date includes investigation of the characteristics of patients admitted as in patients to palliative care services, perceptions and practices of diabetes educators teaching about physical activity, prevalence of chronic pain in southwestern Manitoba, impact of Reiki (complimentary/alternative therapy) for palliative care patients, and nurses perceptions and experiences of caring for families as part of their nursing practice.
