His work integrates culturally responsive pedagogy and self-regulated learning to design inclusive, evidence-informed instructional practices that support meaningful learning across K–12 and higher education settings.

Through researcher–practitioner partnerships, he collaborates with educators to co-design and study learning environments that are responsive to students’ cultural backgrounds and lived experiences. His research employs case study and mixed-methods approaches to examine both teaching practices and students’ engagement and motivation in real classroom contexts.

This research program is anchored in the Culturally Responsive Self-Regulated Learning (CR-SRL) Framework and aims to inform educator professional development, instructional design, and educational practices that promote equity, engagement, and academic success across diverse learning environments.

His research is guided by a central question: How can we design learning environments that empower all learners to regulate their learning, remain motivated, and thrive across diverse cultural contexts?

His work advances three interconnected priorities:

Designing inclusive and culturally responsive learning environments

Supporting educators through research-informed professional development

Advancing equity, engagement, and student success at scale

His work is situated at the intersection of culture, self-regulated learning, engagement, motivation, and academic success (CREAMS), aligning with global priorities in:

Educational equity and inclusion

Self-regulated learning and student motivation

Student engagement and academic success

Teacher development and instructional innovation

International and cross-cultural education

His work bridges theory, research, and practice to inform instructional design, policy, and educational transformation.

Key Contribution: The CR-SRL Framework

At the core of Dr. Anyichie’s work is the Culturally Responsive Self-Regulated Learning (CR-SRL) Framework, which integrates:

Foundational Practices: Building inclusive, safe, and culturally responsive learning environments

Designed Practices: Structuring meaningful, complex learning tasks that integrate students’ cultural backgrounds and lived experiences, while promoting autonomy, reflection, and self-regulated learning.

Supportive Practices: Providing dynamic support through feedback, collaboration, and scaffolding

This framework offers a practical, research-informed approach to improving student engagement and motivation across diverse educational settings.

Learn more and cite this work: https://doi.org/10.1177/21582440251367830

Research Vision and Impact Dr. Anyichie’s research focuses on understanding and enhancing how culturally diverse learners engage, regulate their learning, and remain motivated in educational contexts.
