Science Methods"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"center\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong><strong><strong><strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/people.brandonu.ca\/cockerlineg\/files\/2012\/01\/MY-Science1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-191\" src=\"https:\/\/people.brandonu.ca\/cockerlineg\/files\/2012\/01\/MY-Science1-227x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" height=\"300\" width=\"227\" srcset=\"https:\/\/people.brandonu.ca\/cockerlineg\/files\/2012\/01\/MY-Science1-227x300.jpg 227w, https:\/\/people.brandonu.ca\/cockerlineg\/files\/2012\/01\/MY-Science1.jpg 424w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 227px) 100vw, 227px\" \/><\/a>Course Overview<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>While the content of the middle years science curriculum will be discussed, the emphasis of this <em>methods <\/em>course deals with:<\/p>\n<p>1) Why science is included in the M.Y school curriculum (i.e. the goals or philosophy of the science program),<br \/>\n2) Strategies as to how best to achieve those goals (i.e. how science should be taught), and<br \/>\n3) Assessment methods that are appropriate to the Manitoba grades 5-8 science curriculum.<\/p>\n<p>Much of content of this methods course will be covered through in-class activities, group work, and the sharing of ideas. For these portions of the course, your attendance is required as you will not be able to \u201cget the notes\u201d and expect to have the same degree of learning.<\/p>\n<p>In additional to the experiential portion of the course, there are two major assignments: 1) a cluster portfolio, and 2) a professional science teacher\u2019s standards e\u2011portfolio.<em> <\/em>In order to \u201cPass\u201d this portion of the course, you must not only demonstrate mastery of individual skill sets, but inculcate them as part of your teaching repertoire as exhibited via two major course assignments.<\/p>\n<p>My expectation is that individuals in this course will strive to hone both their teaching skills and to develop their pedagogical knowledge.
