The objectives of this research are two-fold: 1) determine the\u00a0genetic diversity and differentiation of peripheral and disjunct populations, and the conservation consequences of these patterns, and 2) examine the combined effects of habitat fragmentation and biogeography as mechanisms of genetic differentiation.<\/p>\n<p>My research focuses on conservation biology of amphibians and reptiles. My post-doctoral research working with\u00a0<a title=\"http:\/\/www.carleton.ca\/science\/forbes\/\" href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/biology\/people\/mark-forbes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mark Forbes<\/a>\u00a0(Carleton University) investigated the impacts of anthropogenic or natural stress on immune function, and its relationship to life-history trade-offs in amphibians. My Ph.D. research with\u00a0<a title=\"http:\/\/web.uvic.ca\/biology\/faculty\/facpages\/gregory.html\" href=\"http:\/\/www.uvic.ca\/science\/biology\/people\/home\/faculty\/facpages\/gregory.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Patrick Gregory<\/a>\u00a0(University of Victoria) focused on the costs of reproduction in the northern alligator lizard.<\/p>\n<h2>Recent Publications<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cairns, N.A., Rutherford, P.L. and D.J.
