Microbial Ecology & Evolution

My laboratory (the Microbial Adaptation & Evolution Lab) investigates how microbial communities assemble, adapt, and evolve in response to environmental stressors and host interactions. Using plant-associated microbiomes (such as the phyllosphere) and synthetic microbial communities as model systems, we explore the ecological and evolutionary mechanisms driving colonization resistance, priority effects, and microbiome resilience.

In addition, we integrate multi-omics approaches such as amplicon sequencing and shotgun metagenomics with experimental evolution and molecular genetics to uncover how microbial traits and community-level functions respond to changing environments. Prospective undergraduate and graduate students interested in microbial ecology, genomics, or bioinformatics are encouraged to reach out via email.
