In Sudbury, Ontario born and raised,
\nPlaying video games is how I spent most of my days.<\/span>
\nChillin\u2019 out maxin\u2019 out relaxin\u2019 all cool,<\/span>
\nI was never a strong student in high-school.<\/span>
\n\u00a0<\/span>
\nI went to university to complete a degree,<\/span>
\nI did it because it was expected of me.<\/span>
\nAcademics wasn\u2019t something that I thought was fun, <\/span>
\nBut I didn\u2019t want to waste my tuition. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>
\nSo I gave it the old college try,<\/span>
\nAnd I learned that education could gratify.<\/span>
\n\u00a0<\/span>
\nAt first it was courses in philosophy and law,\"Books\"<\/span>
\nDr. Donohue captured my interested and awe.<\/span>
\nWe studied Postman, Plato, Mill, and Chomsky,<\/span>
\nWe learned to challenge, resist, and question authority. <\/span>
\n\u00a0<\/span>
\nThen came courses in statistics, <\/span>
\nAt the time the word made me feel hysterics, <\/span>
\nThey appeared scary, daunting, and rife with intimidations, <\/span>
\nSo I studied and practiced, and practiced, and practiced the equations, \"normal\"<\/span>
\nIn the end, I passed all the evaluations.<\/span>
\n\u00a0<\/span>
\nI developed confidence in myself, where there was none before, <\/span>
\nSo I studied even harder, so that I can learn even more. <\/span>
\nI went to class, took notes, and read, <\/span>
\nI thought \u201cthis isn\u2019t too bad, I\u2019m not a pinhead\u201d.<\/span>
\n\u00a0<\/span>
\nFinally, it was a course in perception,\"percevoir\"<\/a><\/span>
\nThat made me realize my dream profession. <\/span>
\nAt the time, the Matrix was a popular movie,<\/span>
\nQuestioning the nature of reality was pretty groovy. <\/span>
\nIn perception, we studied how do we see, taste, touch, smell and hear,<\/span>
\n\u201cThis is what I wanted to think about for the rest of my career.\u201d<\/span>
\n\u00a0<\/span>
\nSo I went to Ottawa, to complete a Ph.D,<\/span>
\nIn the hopes of becoming a professor in experimental psychology. <\/span>
\nDr. Collin and Dr. Lamontagne left a big impact on me,<\/span>
\nThey both shaped my understanding of how we see. <\/span>
\n\u00a0<\/span>
\nI was fortunate to obtain a position at BU, <\/span>
\nWhere hopefully I’ll discuss statistics and perception with you. <\/span><\/p>\n
