While these courses might appear to be disparate, there are all special cases of one general theme: <em>the conjectural nature of \u00a0knowledge.<\/em>\u00a0Whether we are studying sensory-motor phenomena\u00a0(perception), formalization of empirical hypotheses (statistics), or the development of scientific theories (history of psychological ideas), all of these domains of inquiry share a speculative, hypothetical, and conjectural character. Percepts, statistics, and theories are simply our best guesses about the phenomenon in question.
