Research Interests

Dr. Wilson’s primary research interest is the improvement of low brass pedagogy in the public school system. Aside from working directly with secondary level teachers and students, he has presented his research at the Canadian Music Educator’s Association Conference in Winnipeg in 2015 and at the annual Avenues: Exploring Band and Jazz Methods workshop in Brandon, MB.

Performance projects include participating in Market Street Brass as the group’s bass trombonist, freelance playing with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Brandon Chamber Players, Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra, and other ensembles, as well as giving clinics and recitals across Canada and in the United States. In January 2016, Dr. Wilson received a Brandon University Research Committee grant to complete his recording project, Inspired By. The album will be released in 2017 and will include the premier of at least two new works for solo trombone.

The brass area at Brandon University is also working on having a faculty/student quintet available for recitals at the university as well as in the community.
