This year&#8217;s course will take place in B\u00e1r\u00f0ardalur and Reykholt, Iceland.<\/li>\n<li>I will be giving a paper on &#8220;Bishop Oddur&#8217;s Hekla&#8221; at the meeting of the Canadian Historical Association in Charlottetown in June, 2026.<\/li>\n<li>I was a scholar-in-residence at Snorrastofa (the Snorri Sturluson Centre) in August 2025. This museum and research facility is located on the site of Snorri Sturluson&#8217;s old farm near Reykholt, Iceland. Perry and Matthew Gabriele: <a href=\"https:\/\/buttondown.com\/ModernMedieval\/archive\/the-devil-in-history\/\">https:\/\/buttondown.com\/ModernMedieval\/archive\/the-devil-in-history\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Together with Richard Raiswell (PEI), Mikki Brock (Washington and Lee), Sarah Hughes (Temple), Peter Dendle (Penn State, Mont Alto), and Kathryn Morris (King&#8217;s College, Halifax), I was one of the principal organisers of <em>Devil 2024<\/em> in Halifax, Nova Scotia, 15-18 May, 2024. The conference brought together historians, sociologists, literature specialists, and other scholars to examine the idea of a &#8220;Satanic Renaissance&#8221; in modern global culture.<\/li>\n<li>I participated in <em>Svart\u00e1rkot &#8211; Nature &#8211; Culture<\/em> field school in B\u00e1r\u00f0ardalur and Vatnaj\u00f6kull, Iceland in August, 2023. This is a ongoing program that explores the history and literature of Iceland through the lens of the environmental humanities.<\/li>\n<li>I presented a paper on the literary circle around Bishop Gu\u00f0brandur \u00deorl\u00e1ksson of H\u00f3lar (d. 1627) and its attempts to frame a new natural history of Iceland in the seventeenth century at <em>Scientiae<\/em> Prague 2023.<\/li>\n<li>Maclean&#8217;s Magazine named my &#8220;History of the Devil&#8221; seminar (54:450) one of Brandon University&#8217;s &#8220;cool courses&#8221; in their University Rankings for 2022: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.macleans.ca\/schools\/brandon-university\/\">https:\/\/www.macleans.ca\/schools\/brandon-university\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li>In October 2022, I gave a paper on the the controversy that attended the publication of Hamburg merchant Gories Peerse&#8217;s satirical poem <em>Van Yslandt<\/em> (ca. 1561) for the Sixteenth Century Society&#8217;s conference in Minneapolis.
