Background

Shelley has many years of teaching experience in public and private education. When an opportunity to have influence in the preparation of pre-service teachers to enter the profession, Shelley came to the Faculty of Education as the Field Experience Director. After beginning her Ph.D. at the University of Regina, Shelley attained a faculty position as Assistant Professor. She is a member of the Ed. Psych. & Student Services Dept. in the faculty. Using  post-qualitative methodology, Shelley’s dissertation research focused on adult learners who dropped out of high school and returned to an adult collegiate later in life to complete their high school diploma. Her research interests are in the area literacy and learning in rural spaces. In particular, she wants to learn more about the experiences of adults who live with dyslexia, transitions of students with dyslexia from early years to middle years to high school, and the strategies of early years teachers in rural Manitoba schools who have taught children with dyslexia.
