Doug, Karen and Rocky

Karen comes from a ranching and farming background in Western Canada beginning with her great- grandmother who homesteaded in southwestern Saskatchewan in the early 1900’s.  That tradition continues with her adult children and their partners who are all involved in agriculture.

As a livestock producer on the prairies she developed developed a deep commitment to the conservation of prairie grasslands particularly from the threat of invasive species.  One of her personal highlights was the work she did in helping establish the Frenchman River-Wood River Weed Management Area on the borders of the Grasslands National Park in Saskatchewan.  She was also the founding president of the Indian Head Agricultural Research Foundation. Karen continues to be a rural person, living with her husband Nick, on their farm outside of Brandon.
