This is my favorite course to teach for two reasons. First, the subject matter: the entire course is centered around one problem: How do we come to know the existence and properties of objects in our environment? Second, how we go about exploring that problem is largely determined by you, the student. All aspects of course design, including the methods of evaluation, are jointly determined by the student and the professor. Ultimately, the purpose of this course is to provide you with the opportunity to develop your own understanding of perception, rather than simply recapitulate the content of lecture slides or a textbook.
